Armored Lucid Air Sapphire comes with electric-shock door handles

  • U.S. Armor Group’s armored Lucid Air Sapphire is almost double the price of the standard electric sedan
  • U.S. Armor Group claims it builds the world’s fastest armored car
  • Use of composite armor over ballistic steel results in better protection and lighter weight

A company by the name of U.S. Armor Group is offering an armored Lucid Air Sapphire.

With a starting price of $475,000, it costs almost double the price of a regular Air Sapphire, but what you get for the extra cash could save your life, depending on how much danger follows you on a regular basis.

U.S. Armor Group said it focused on integrating armoring and ballistic windows for the vehicle. All glass was replaced by transparent armor that can stop a .44 Magnum round.

For the body, including all doors, protection comes from composite armor. The company claims this military-grade armor is 10 times stronger than ballistic steel yet five times lighter. The additional weight is only around 385 pounds, the company said. A more durable level of protection is also available if your commute might happen to include attacks by heavy-duty rifles, grenades, or explosive devices.

Additional security features can be added, if you need to get out of a tight squeeze. These include items like pepper spray dispensers, concealed gun ports, poison gas detection and protection, and door handles that can provide an electric shock.

For the interior, U.S. Armor Group offers a secure wifi package designed to shield your network from hackers, along with a scanner system that provides access to information from local police and fire departments. Additionally, there’s an access point that allows you to connect instantly to U.S. Armor Group for further assistance.

The Air Sapphire features three electric motors delivering a combined output of 1,234 hp. It manages the 0-60 mph sprint in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 3.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile in 9.0 seconds at 158 mph, and it has a top speed of 205 mph. The extra weight of U.S. Armor Group’s armor protection probably dims that performance, but the company still bills its car as the world’s fastest armored vehicle.

If the Sapphire isn’t to your liking, U.S. Armor Group says its armor protection can be added to nearly any other type of vehicle.
