U.S. car security regulators have accepted a request by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation to reopen the remark interval on whether or not any check procedures associated to NHTSA’s federal car security requirements needs to be changed, repealed or modified.
NHTSA in December issued an advance notice of proposed rule-making that sought touch upon amending its check procedures for any of the Federal Motor Car Security Requirements “for causes aside from concerns related solely to automated driving techniques,” in accordance with an unpublished document.
The remark interval ended Feb. 8 however, beginning Wednesday, will reopen for 30 days.
The alliance — which represents most main automakers within the U.S. in addition to some suppliers and tech corporations — requested the company in January for a 30-day extension of the remark interval.
The affiliation stated the extra time was mandatory for it “to conduct a complete evaluation of the in depth variety of laws” and auto security requirements which have detailed check procedures, according to the request. It additionally cited COVID-19 restrictions as an obstacle to organizing work group conferences to debate the subject.
