Sainz closing in on two-year Ferrari extension – report

Carlos Sainz and Ferrari are near confirming a two-year contract extension, in response to a report in Spanish publication AS.

Sainz is within the second 12 months of his present Ferrari contract and has appeared prone to keep past 2022 for some time, with the crew exhibiting little curiosity in procuring round for one more driver.

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto stated on the season’s opening race in March {that a} new deal for Sainz was shut, though these negotiations appeared to decelerate not too long ago.

The AS report says a two-year extension is perhaps confirmed as early as this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, a house race for Ferrari as one in all two races in Italy at a venue near its fabled headquarters at Maranello.

Sainz’s teammate and runaway championship chief Charles Leclerc has a contract with Ferrari till 2024.

Even when Ferrari was serious about shifting on from Sainz, lots of the grid’s greatest names are tied down at their present groups for the foreseeable future.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen not too long ago signed an enormous deal maintaining him at Pink Bull till 2028, whereas Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes contract runs till the top of 2023.

Sainz’s former McLaren teammate Lando Norris not too long ago signed an extension on his deal to maintain him on the British crew till 2025.
