BERLIN — Volkswagen Group stated it had resumed three-shift operations at its EV manufacturing unit in Zwickau, Germany, ranging from Monday.
Output on the plant, which builds full-electric vehicles for the VW, Audi and Cupra manufacturers, is anticipated to extend to as much as 1,300 autos a day, Automotive Information Europe sister publication Automobilwoche reported.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, manufacturing was interrupted for 3 weeks in March resulting from disrupted provide chains, with manufacturing falling at instances to 900 autos a day.
VW’s Saxony division, which operates the plant, stated the availability of components is now secure sufficient for the manufacturing unit to return to a three-shift operation.
This may assist to clear an order backlog for EVs constructed on the plant, VW Saxony CEO Stefan Loth stated in a press release.
The plant in western Saxony is VW Group’s largest location for electrical autos in Europe. VW model’s ID3, ID4, ID5 fashions, the Audi This autumn e-tron, Audi This autumn Sportback e-tron and Cupra Born fashions all roll off the manufacturing line.
VW has began ID4 manufacturing at its manufacturing unit in Emden, Germany.
VW plans to proceed to increase its lineup of EVs, together with a number of electrical vans inbuilt Hanover, Germany. The VW ID Buzz will ultimately be joined by an electrical Transporter, E-Crafter and ID California camper van.
