BRAINERD, Minn. — 4-time defending Prime Gas champion Steve Torrence raced to his first victory of the season Sunday, defending his occasion win at Brainerd Worldwide Raceway within the fortieth annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.
Beating eight-time season champ Tony Schumacher within the ultimate spherical, Torrence picked up his 52nd victory — and first since November — with a run of three.866 seconds at 322.04 mph.
“While you’ve had the success and the dominance we have had, it is troublesome to not have that. You simply must grit and dig by way of it,” Torrence mentioned. “[But] these Capco boys, they’re unhealthy to the bone. We have proven it time and time once more. We did not overlook how you can win however, dang, it positive felt prefer it.
“I’ve all the boldness and the religion on this planet on this group as a result of that automobile is at all times unhealthy to the bone. Perhaps we’re getting our stuff collectively on the proper time as a result of we’re charging for that [fifth title].”
Bob Tasca III received in Humorous Automotive for the third time in 4 races. He edged six-time Brainerd winner Ron Capps with a 3.942 at 329.42 in a Ford Mustang.
