MILAN — Automotive Cells Firm (ACC) has picked Turin-based Comau to design and develop the battery module manufacturing traces for a gigafactory it’s constructing within the French city of Douvrin.
ACC, a three way partnership of Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies, has a plan value over 7 billion euros ($6.9 billion) to construct three gigafactories in France, Germany and Italy with a capability of 40 gigawatt hours (GWh) every by 2030, to assist the rising manufacturing of electrified automobiles.
As a part of the deal, Comau, the robotics arm of Stellantis, will provide ACC with the experience and tools wanted to automate manufacturing of the EV batteries, with the choice to provide each 8- and 16-cell modules, Comau mentioned on Thursday.
The 5 Comau-designed traces will enable ACC’s French gigafactory to provide as much as 8 GWh yearly by the top of 2024, it mentioned, including it’s going to assure native sourcing of expertise, auxiliary tools and parts.
