Mitsubishi launched the 2023 MY range of the Triton pickup in Australia, which loses the petrol option but gains more equipment and a new special trim called “Triton Sport Edition” that will be produced in 400 units for Down Under.

Starting with the limited edition, it is based on the GLS Deluxe trim with Dual Cab bodystyle, but features a number of styling touches distinguishing it from the rest of the lineup. The grille, mirror caps, alloy wheels, and rear bumper got a dark theme, contrasting with the chrome dynamic shield.

The front skid plate is finished in red, with matching red accents on the side steps, and rear bumper. Finally, decals with red and gray stripes have been added on the bonnet and the tailgate adding a little bit of sportiness into the mix – although not as much as in the Ralliart-badged Triton rally car from last spring.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in black leather with red stitching. Just like in the GLS Deluxe pack it is based on, the Sport Edition comes with heated front seats, power adjustments for the driver’s seat, Mitsubishi’s multi-around monitor, and leather inserts on the doors.

Other changes for the 2023 Triton lineup include the addition of standard black side steps in the GLX trim, and an improved audio system with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen for the GLX-R and GLS grades.

Finally, Mitsubishi discontinued the 2.4-liter petrol engine which was only available in the Triton GLX Single Cab Chassis. This means that all Triton variants are now fitted with the 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine producing 178 hp (133 kW / 181 PS) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear (4×2) or to all four wheels (4×4) through a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Prices And Availability

Production of the Aussie-spec 2023 Mitsubishi Triton is already underway, with the first deliveries scheduled for December 2022. Pricing starts from $30,740 AUD ($19,611 USD) for the entry-level Triton GLX Single Cab 4×2 manual, going all the way up to $64,640 AUD ($41,227) for the flagship Triton GSR Double Cab 4×4 automatic. As for the Triton Sport Edition, it is exclusively offered in 4×4 automatic form, priced at $56,440 AUD ($36,000).

Note that Mitsubishi is working on a new generation of the Triton/L200 that is rumored to debut in late 2023 bringing modern styling and upgraded tech features.
