CarMax appoints longtime employee as COO

CarMax Inc. has appointed Joe Wilson, a longtime employee, as COO and executive vice president.

Wilson, 49, stepped into the role “effective immediately,” according to a document CarMax filed Nov. 18 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His annual base salary will be $625,000, according to the filing.

He succeeds Ed Hill, who retired from the COO position in January, according to the company.

Wilson joined CarMax in 1995, according to the filing. He worked in buying roles and as a purchasing manager for several years before being promoted to assistant vice president of auction services and merchandising development in 2008. He was promoted to vice president of that unit in 2013.

In 2016, Wilson was appointed vice president of merchandising operations. In 2017, he was promoted to senior vice president of store strategy and logistics.
