Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has confirmed that the Model X Plaid will be updated to include the same Track Mode function as the Model S Plaid.
The car manufacturer first introduced a Track Mode into one of its vehicles, namely the Model 3, a few years ago and in January 2022, introduced a similar feature to the flagship Model S Plaid. The new Track Mode brings with it a host of advancements, including optimized cooling, torque vectoring, and adds adjustable dynamics settings.
Elon Musk was asked about the possibility of a Track Mode being added to the Model X Plaid during the carmaker’s recent Annual Shareholder Meeting.
“Yeah, we could probably add that, sure. No problem,” Musk responded.
Of course, the number of Model X Plaid owners that will ever venture near a racetrack is very small but we know that enthusiasts of the brand love any new feature that Tesla rolls out. Even with a Track Mode, there are only so many software changes Tesla could make to the Model X Plaid to better cater to high-speed driving on a track without it actually upgrading key mechanical parts of the SUV, like its suspension system.

In the case of the Model S Plaid’s Track Mode, Tesla’s torque vectoring system can send more power to the outside wheels to help rotate the EV and it can also adjust the torque split front to back to improve turn-in. Tesla has also increased the car’s regenerative braking power and developed a system that drops the temperature of the battery pack as low as possible to keep the powertrain cooler for longer.
It is unclear if Tesla also plans to introduce a Track Pack to the Model X Plaid. This pack was announced for the Model S Plaid earlier this month and increases the car’s top speed to 200 mph (320 km/h) while also adding carbon ceramic brakes and the option of new wheels and tires.
