BUDAPEST, Hungary — Lando Norris unintentionally broke Max Verstappen’s winner’s trophy on the Hungarian Grand Prix after some overexuberant celebrations on the rostrum.
Verstappen gained Sunday’s race by over 30 seconds from Norris, who took second place for McLaren forward of the second Purple Bull of Sergio Perez.
In the course of the conventional champagne celebrations, Norris slammed his bottle on the primary place step of the rostrum subsequent to Verstappen’s trophy.
The highest three drivers on the Hungarian Grand Prix obtain porcelain trophies and the hit from the bottle toppled Verstappen’s onto the ground.
The bottom of the trophy broke off, with Norris persevering with to spray champagne over Verstappen earlier than trying again over his shoulder on the shattered porcelain on the ground.
Requested what occurred through the post-race press convention, Norris joked: “I am unsure…
“Errr, Max simply positioned it too near the sting? I do not know, it fell over I suppose.
“Not my downside, it is his!”
Verstappen did not seem overly involved, carrying the damaged elements of the trophy off the rostrum with a broad smile on his face.
