VW to cut production of two EV models due to weaker demand

FRANKFURT — Volkswagen will droop manufacturing of VW ID3 and Cupra Born battery-electric automobiles at its Zwickau and Dresden vegetation in Germany within the first two weeks of October as a consequence of weaker demand.

Because of the present market state of affairs, manufacturing will probably be diminished in the course of the autumn holidays in Saxony from Oct. 2 to Oct. 13 at VW’s Zwickau plant, an organization spokesperson mentioned on Tuesday.

Manufacturing of the ID3 in Dresden will probably be suspended from Oct. 2 and can resume on Oct. 16.

VW declined to touch upon the variety of workers affected. The carmaker mentioned earlier this month that it will not prolong the fixed-term contracts of 269 workers at its all-electric Zwickau plant.

VW is going through rising competitors from Tesla and a rising array of Chinese language automakers, in addition to dampened demand within the European EV market as a consequence of excessive inflation and cuts to subsidies.
