Helio Castroneves will run the subsequent two IndyCar races instead of Tom Blomqvist, who was a part of a gap lap crash that eradicated three automobiles at first of the Indianapolis 500.
Castroneves, who’s now a part of the possession group at Meyer Shank Racing, will drive the No. 66 this weekend in Detroit and subsequent month at Highway America. The group stated Wednesday they “have mutually agreed” for Blomqvist to step apart for 2 races.
Blomqvist received the Rolex 24 at Daytona in consecutive years and the IMSA championship for MSR and stays a part of the group.
“Making this determination was by far the toughest one we’ve got needed to make,” stated MSR co-owner, Mike Shank. “Tom is 100% nonetheless part of the MSR household and can stay part of the group for the remainder of the season. The choice was not made flippantly and after a lot dialogue with Tom, and with back-to-back races arising, we’ve got determined to have Helio drive in Detroit and at Highway America.”
Blomqvist has struggled in his first full IndyCar season, particularly in comparison with teammate Felix Rosenqvist. His greatest qualifying effort of the 12 months is twelfth and his greatest end was fifteenth within the March season-opener.
Rosenqvist, in the meantime, has a pole and two top-five finishes. He was on the rostrum on the exhibition All-Star race in March.
“It’s truthful to say that the final couple of days have been a number of the hardest in my profession,” stated Blomqvist. “Everybody who is aware of me is aware of how a lot I really like being part of the MSR household and collectively we’ve got loved some wonderful successes and victories. I’m wanting ahead to remaining a part of the MSR household and contributing to the MSR imaginative and prescient as we chase down additional successes sooner or later.”
