Fiat unveils new Grande Panda as an EV and hybrid
Fiat showcased five new Panda-inspired concepts at the Geneva Motor Show in February. The brand said its first, a city car slightly bigger than the Panda, will be revealed in July.
As promised, Fiat unveiled the new Grande Panda this week. It will be available as an EV or a hybrid.
The Grande Panda is the first of Fiat’s new global line-up based on a multi-energy platform. The platform also underpins the new Citroen e-C3, which starts at $25,000 (€23,300).
Fiat’s new EV is expected to be priced similarly, making it one of the most affordable EVs when it goes on sale.
Inspired by the 1980s Panda, the Grande is a compact family car at 3.99 meters (157″) long. That’s even smaller than the Chevy Bolt EV at 163.2″ long.
The new Panda has a retro, rugged look thanks to its wedge-shaped design, robust wheel arches, and dynamic curves.
Fiat says the vehicle’s “Italian personality” is apparent through its design and distinctive features. Unique pixel-style headlights arranged in a “chessboard pattern” and giant “Panda” lettering on the side add to the retro look.
With a special design, the new Fiat Grande Panda EV is “shaping the future for now.” It will be available in both electric and hybrid options.
Fiat will launch the new Grande Panda in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, kicking off its new global line-up. It will be the first of a new Fiat vehicle launched every year until 2027.
Although there’s no word on whether the Grande Panda EV will land in the US, Fiat’s first electric car, the 500e, launched earlier this year. Starting at $32,500 (not including destination), the Fiat 500e is one of the most affordable EVs in the US.
