Acura will use 2024 Monterey Car Week on this month to present a concept previewing its next electric vehicle, an SUV to be built in the U.S. and using an in-house platform.
A teaser photo released on Friday doesn’t show much but the wait for the full reveal won’t be long as Monterey Car Week runs Aug. 9-18. The annual California event is also where Acura rolled out the Precision EV two years ago, a concept that previewed the 2024 ZDX currently on sale.
The platform underpinning Acura’s next EV won’t be in any way related to General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology featured in the ZDX. It will be a new design developed with parent company Honda, which will use it for various EVs including the 0 (Zero) Series EV family announced in January at 2024 CES.
The platform will feature in-house developed software and be flexible enough to support vehicles in various segments, though the first vehicles will be in the “mid-to-large” segments, Honda has previously said. The targeted range will be 300 miles or more.

The new EV brand Afeela established by Honda and Sony is also expected to use the platform.
The first Honda EV on the platform is due on sale in the U.S. in 2026. That’s also when Afeela’s first EV will be available, and likely when the production version of Acura’s upcoming concept will also start sales. Acura plans to sell all of its EVs online only, mimicking EV brands like Tesla and Rivian.
For the U.S. market, the vehicles will be built at Honda’s revamped Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. The batteries will also be sourced from an Ohio plant Honda is establishing with LG.
Acura will still launch vehicles with gas engines. The next will arrive early next year as the 2025 ADX, rumored to be a subcompact crossover twinned with the latest Honda HR-V.
