PLANO, Texas — David Wilson will retire as Toyota Racing Growth’s president and group vice chairman in December after main the U.S. motorsports arm for the previous 11 of 35 years with the Japanese automaker.
Common supervisor Tyler Gibbs, who has held a number of roles with the group since becoming a member of in 1996, will succeed Wilson as TRD’s president upon his departure Dec. 16.
Wilson was appointed to the place in January 2014 and has performed a major position in TRD race wins and championships throughout quite a few collection, together with entries into NASCAR, CART and IndyCar. TRD’s success consists of wins in marquee races such because the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Wilson mentioned Wednesday in a launch from Toyota Motor North America that he was honored to be a part of the group. He added, “I’ve accomplished my lap and I am proud handy the keys over to my good friend and ‘brother in arms’, Tyler Gibbs,” and is assured that Gibbs will proceed to develop and strengthen TRD’s legacy on and off the observe.
Gibbs will oversee North American operations and actions together with engine/chassis engineering, manufacturing and administration in California and North Carolina. Gibbs mentioned he has “massive footwear to fill” and praised Wilson for offering alternatives to be taught and develop working for him.
