Pininfarina made a one-off Battista targa for America

Pininfarina has revealed an open-top Battista electric hypercar ahead of the formal debut later today at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, one of the premier events of 2024 Monterey Car Week currently underway in California.

The new Battista Targamerica, as the name suggests, is a targa version of the Battista. It is strictly a one-off car, commissioned by a North American car collector (and existing Battista owner) who also requested a cigar humidor to be fitted between the seats.

The design takes inspiration from another one-off, open-top car penned by Pininfarina: the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider built for Gianni Agnelli to mark his 20th year as Fiat’s chairman. Like that car, the Battista Targamerica is finished in silver and detailed with blue and black accents on its exterior. The car also sports a set of one-off wheels with a five-spoke design and ceramic-polished finish.

For the interior, there’s tan leather with black accents. There’s also that cigar humidor, which features backlighting that matches the ambient lighting of the rest of the cabin. As such, it also changes depending on what drive mode has been selected.

To accommodate the new targa design, Pininfarina removed the central bar that normally forms the middle of the roof, a change that also required the doors to be made frameless. A new targa bar with “Battista Targamerica” badging now sits behind the rear seats, which flows into a sealed-off panel that replaces the rear window.

“This commission forced us to challenge ourselves to deliver Battista levels of performance without the tensile support of a hard-body roof, pushing the team to deliver a creative, one-of-kind solution to meet our client’s needs,” Andrea Crespi, Pininfarina’s chief technical officer, said in a statement.

Though it’s the first open-top Battista, it isn’t the first open-top car based on the Battista’s chassis. That honor goes to the Pininfarina B95, a speedster that debuted at last year’s Monterey Car Week and limited to just 10 examples worldwide. Pininfarina will also show off a B95 Gotham edition inspired by DC Comics character Bruce Wayne at The Quail later today.

The Battista’s chassis was originally developed by Rimac for its own Nevera electric hypercar. It features a T-shaped battery with a capacity of 120 kwh, plus four independent electric motors delivering a combined 1,874 hp in the Battista. Owners can expect 0-60 mph times of less than two seconds and a top speed of more than 186 mph.
