- Lando Norris won the 2024 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix
- Local hero Max Verstappen struggled for grip after leading early on
- Verstappen still has a sizable gap in the Drivers’ championship
McLaren’s Lando Norris converted a pole position into a win on Sunday at the 2024 Formula1 Dutch Grand Prix, denying local hero Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing a fourth straight victory at the race at Circuit Zandvoort.
Verstappen finished in second place, almost 23 seconds behind, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the top three with a 25-second gap behind Norris.
Norris was joined by Verstappen at the front of the grid for the start of the race, which served as round 15 of the 2024 season. Fellow McLaren driver Oscar Piastri and Mercedes-Benz AMG’s George Russell filled out the second row, followed by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Leclerc in the third row. When the lights turned green, Verstappen made a brilliant start to jump into the lead before the first corner.
Norris kept his cool and prevented Verstappen from building too much of a gap, something that he was able to capitalize on at the end of lap 17 with an impressive overtaking maneuver. Verstappen, losing grip, wasn’t able to take back the position and started to fall back. From there, Norris continued to build a sizable gap and hold it to the finish line, even taking home a bonus point for the fastest lap in the process.

Further back, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc delivered an impressive drive, climbing from sixth to finish third of Piastri in fourth and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in fifth.
Russell and fellow Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton didn’t seem to have the pace they enjoyed in recent races. They pushed hard in the final laps to close down on Perez and Sainz but were unable to get ahead.
Following the weekend’s action, Verstappen still leads the 2024 Drivers’ Championship with 296 points. Norris is second with 225 points and Leclerc is third with 192 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull leads with 434 points. McLaren is second with 404 points and Ferrari is third with 370 points.
The next race on the calendar is the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sept. 1.
