Porsche will continue selling Panameras equipped with gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains after the launch of an electric Panamera later this decade.
That’s according to Porsche R&D boss Michael Steiner, who in an interview with Autocar published on Tuesday said Porsche will update its gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains to ensure they stay on the right side of emissions rules.
Porsche in July announced a similar plan for the Cayenne. The automaker will add an electric Cayenne to its lineup around 2026 but will continue selling gas and plug-in hybrid Cayennes alongside it, including into the new decade.
“The new Cayenne is fully electric, but for its whole lifespan we will have the ICE version in parallel,” Steiner told Autocar. “It’s the same for the Panamera.”

The strategy is a change from Porsche’s earlier plan to be mostly electric by 2030. The shift, announced by Porsche in July, is due to slower than expected take-up rates for EVs.
The Panamera was last redesigned for the 2024 model year and for 2025 the lineup includes two gas options and four plug-in hybrids.
The electric Panamera will use a dedicated EV platform, likely to be the SSP Sport platform Porsche is developing for its three-row SUV due around 2027. The electric Panamera should arrive after that date.
Steiner didn’t mention any details about the electric Panamera. It’s possible the car will grow in size to provide a buffer with the Taycan which Porsche plans to keep in the lineup. The Taycan is only a few inches shorter than the current Panamera. By making future Panameras bigger, Porsche will be able to target full-size sedan buyers.
