The Honda Civic Type R enters the 2025 model year with no changes apart from a price tag that’s up $800.

Honda has confirmed a starting price of $46,690 for the 2025 Civic Type R which will be available to order later this year. The price includes a destination charge of $1,095 and makes the current generation of the popular hot hatch $2,700 more expensive compared to when it first arrived as a 2023 model.

A 480-hp Ford Mustang GT is only slightly more expensive at $47,055, and even a luxury performance model like BMW’s 382-hp M240i isn’t far off with its starting price of $51,275. Another worthy alternative is the 300-hp Toyota Corolla GR, which comes with all-wheel drive and for 2025 offers the choice between a manual or an automatic transmission. The Corolla GR seems like a bargain with its starting price of $37,195.

The Civic Type R makes do with 315 hp, generated by a 2.0-liter turbo-4. The engine is mounted up front and drives the front wheels only, via a 6-speed manual transmission.

The output may be down on some of the competition, but the Civic Type R is hard to beat, both in its segment and beyond. The last two generations have both been Motor Authority Best Car To Buy winners.

Standard features include 19-inch wheels, sport bucket seats, wireless phone charging, a Bose audio system, and the Honda Sensing suite of electronic driver-assist features. The car also comes with some delicious red trim as standard.

While the Civic Type R is unchanged for 2025, the 200-hp Civic Si sport sedan has received some updates for the new model year. They are minor, consisting of a revised front fascia and chassis tweaks to increase the car’s rigidity, plus a few other updates. The 2025 Civic Si starts at $31,045, including the same $1,095 destination charge.
