Ford recalls thousands of vehicles with potentially defective turbo engines

Ford has issued a recall on multiple vehicles from the Ford and Lincoln brands due to engines potentially stalling.

Vehicles listed in the recall include the Ford Bronco, F-150, Edge, and Explorer from the 2021-2022 model years, and the Lincoln Nautilus and Aviator from the same model years.

However, it is only those examples with Ford’s twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 and twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, which form part of the automaker’s Nano series of engines. A total 90,736 vehicles are affected in the U.S.

According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on Aug. 23 (recall campaign number 24V635000), the engines in the affected vehicles could suffer from intake valves breaking, which could result in a stall and the driver in turn experiencing a loss of control.

Owners may notice their vehicle running rough and the engine warning light switching on prior to the engine stalling, according to the notice.

Ford said it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The remedy requires a dealer to perform an engine cycle test and replace the engine if necessary, a service that will be performed free of charge.

Affected owners will be notified by mail from Oct. 7. Anyone looking for further information can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or visit the automaker’s recall page.
