Ram is out testing prototypes for an updated Heavy Duty pickup truck, and the brand provided an early look on Tuesday at some of the styling changes.
Due later this year as a 2025 model, the updated truck can be identified by new lights at both ends, as well as a revised grille that adopts extra slats and appears to integrate a large sensor at its base. The updated Rebel Heavy Duty takes things up a notch with a combination of vertical and horizontal slats.
Ram hasn’t provided any further details, but the changes to the truck are expected to be the most significant since the current Heavy Duty arrived for the 2019 model year.
For interior changes, a look at the heavily updated 2025 1500 likely provides some clues. The light-duty truck offers a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.5-inch portrait-style infotainment screen. A 10.3-inch front passenger screen is also offered, either as an option or as standard on higher-end models.
2025 Ram 2500 Rebel Heavy Duty
Stellantis brands are in the process of phasing out the V-8 engine, including Ram whose updated 2025 1500 no longer offers the engine. Even the 1500 TRX with its Hellcat V-8 has made way for a new 1500 RHO with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6.
However, the updated Heavy Duty is expected to keep its V-8 for now. The engine is a 6.4-liter V-8 rated at 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque in the current truck. It comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
An alternative should be the 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 from Cummins, which comes mated to a 6-speed automatic and delivers 370 hp and 850 lb-ft in the current truck. A high-output version ups that to 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft.
Depending on the configuration, the current Ram Heavy Duty can tow up to 37,090 pounds and carry a payload of up to 7,680 pounds. Expect similar numbers for the updated truck.
