Jeep on Monday released a teaser sketch for a redesigned Compass compact crossover set to debut next year.

It will initially launch in Europe but will expand to North America and other markets in 2026, Jeep said. An arrival for the 2026 model year in the U.S. is likely.

The teaser sketch hints at a more rugged design with pronounced wheel arches and short overhangs. A blacked-out C-pillar also creates a floating-roof look.

Production will be handled at a plant of Jeep parent company Stellantis, located in Melfi, Italy. The plant is one of several that builds the current Compass.

The new Compass represents the third generation of the nameplate and is confirmed by Jeep to use Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform. The platform is designed for electric vehicles in the compact and midsize segments, but also supports vehicles with gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Jeep said the Compass will offer “multi-energy propulsion systems,” suggesting that gas and plug-in hybrid versions will be launched alongside an EV. Fellow Stellantis brand Opel earlier this year unveiled a redesigned Grandland compact crossover based on the STLA Medium platform, a vehicle that offers gas, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains. In the electric version, the biggest battery has a capacity of 98 kwh, and the same may be true for an electric Compass.

The current Compass has been on sale since the 2017 model year and is the third top-selling vehicle at Jeep behind the Wrangler and leading Grand Cherokee. Despite its age, Compass sales in the U.S. grew 12% last year to reach 96,173 units.
