Nissan on Wednesday unveiled a redesigned Murano crossover due to reach dealerships early next year as a 2025 model.

The fourth-generation model replaces the current Murano that has been on sale since 2015, and benefits from a more upmarket design, inside and out.

It also swaps the current Murano’s 260-hp 3.5-liter V-6 and CVT combination in favor of a 2.0-liter turbo-4 and 9-speed automatic.

The 2.0-liter engine is Nissan’s VC-Turbo design which can vary the engine’s compression ratio to suit performance or economy. The engine is tuned to deliver 241 hp in the 2025 Murano, and drives the front wheels only as standard or all four with an available all-wheel-drive system. The towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.

The 2025 Murano’s design is very close to the Nissan Ariya, especially when it comes to the roof profile and design of the C-pillar. The same is true for the interior, with the layout of the dash and even some individual elements appearing to have been borrowed from Nissan’s electric crossover.

Atop the dash is a single panel combining a pair of 12.3-inch digital screens. The infotainment system features Google built-in and has support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium touches, either standard or available, include massaging front seats, a color head-up display, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, a surround-view monitor that can display 3D graphics, and transparent hood technology that provides a virtual view through the engine bay for precise placing of the front wheels.

Nissan also offers its ProPilot automated driver-assist system which enables hands-free travel in a single lane on highways. The driver still needs to the monitor the road at all times and take back control when prompted.

Pricing information for the 2025 Murano will be announced closer to the market launch.
