A movie about the life of Bugatti founder Ettore Bugatti is in the works, Deadline reported on Monday, citing comments by producer Andrea Iervolino.

The movie is being developed by Iervolino’s new production company, The Andrea Iervolino Company, alongside a movie about the founding of Maserati and starring Anthony Hopkins. The Oscar award winner will play a financier who backs the Maserati brothers in their endeavor to start a car company.

Iervolino has experience with movies about car legends. He was a producer of recent movies about Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari and Lamborghini founder Ferrucio Lamborghini, 2023’s “Ferrari” starring Adam Driver and 2022’s “Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend” starring Frank Grillo, respectively.

“After the success of our films on Lamborghini and Ferrari, I am thrilled to bring another global automotive icon to the screen,” he told Deadline. “Bugatti will be a film that honors the passion and innovation that have defined one of the most iconic car manufacturers of all time.”

According to Deadline, filming of the Bugatti movie is due to start next year at locations in France and Italy.

Ettore Bugatti was born in 1881 in Milan, Italy, and would later spend time in Germany and France. From an early age, he had a penchant for engineering. This talent didn’t go unnoticed by his father, Carlo Bugatti, who persuaded his son to take up an apprenticeship at a factory of Prinetti and Stucchi at the age of 16.

He would later work for companies like De Dietrich and Deutz before founding Bugatti in 1909. He endured plenty of tragedies throughout his life, including living through both the First and Second World Wars, and losing his son Jean in a car accident in 1939. He eventually died in 1947, after suffering for months from mental health issues.

A release date for the movie hasn’t been announced.
