VW says its Spanish battery cell plant will be located near Valencia

BARCELONA — Volkswagen Group’s deliberate battery cell plant in Spain will likely be positioned in Sagunto, on the outskirts of Valencia.

The manufacturing unit could have round 3,000 workers and a manufacturing of 40 gigawatt hours (GWh) a 12 months, VW stated on Wednesday.

The manufacturing unit will likely be VW Group’s second battery cell plant after Salzgitter and the primary one exterior of Germany.

It can produce VW’s next-generation unified cells, the automaker’s expertise chief, Thomas Schmall stated in an announcement.

Development will begin by the tip of the 12 months and the manufacturing unit will likely be prepared to begin manufacturing in 2026, VW stated.
