Mercedes to invest $1.2B in van production in Spain after unions back new plan

MADRID — Mercedes-Benz plans to take a position 1.2 billion euros ($1.23 billion) in its Vitoria plant in northern Spain after staff backed a brand new labor settlement, unions UGT and CCOO mentioned.

About 57 p.c of the plant’s almost 5,000 staff voted in favor of a deal that defines working situations and pay raises till 2026, permitting the automaker to put money into the manufacturing of latest fashions and electrical autos, the unions mentioned in separate statements.

Mercedes builds the Vito and V-Class vans on the plant.

The automaker was not instantly obtainable for remark.

The corporate has mentioned it expects to assemble 158,000 autos in Vitoria, its second largest van meeting plant, in 2022 and plans to extend output within the coming years.
