Stellantis halts Opel plant in Spain due to chip shortage

MADRID — Stellantis has halted its Opel automobile manufacturing unit in Zaragoza in northern Spain for 5 shifts resulting from a scarcity of semiconductors, labor union CCOO stated.

The plant introduced it could droop manufacturing from Thursday night and resume output on Monday, a union consultant advised Reuters.

Opel declined to remark.

A chip scarcity has hit automakers around the globe for the previous two years, inflicting new automobile supply delays and manufacturing issues.

In June, a number of international producers stated they noticed the scarcity easing after a protracted wrestle for the parts.

Automobile manufacturing at Stellantis’ Sochaux automobile plant in France was additionally suspended on Thursday for a similar motive.

Stellantis builds the Opel Corsa and Crossland fashions in Zaragoza.
