2025 GMC Terrain ups space and standard equipment

GMC on Monday took the wraps off a redesigned Terrain compact crossover.

It starts sales late this year as a 2025 model, though GMC plans to launch it initially in Elevation guise only.

Other Terrain models, including the rugged AT4 and luxury-oriented Denali, aren’t scheduled to start sales until sometime next year. They will arrive as 2026 models, GMC has confirmed.

The redesigned Terrain is roughly an inch shorter than the outgoing vehicle, but GMC claims space is up. Cargo space measures 29.8 cubic feet as standard or 63.5 with the rear seats folded flat. Both figures are 0.2 cubic feet greater than those of the previous generation.

The list of standard features has also increased, with all models coming with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, a 15-inch infotainment screen, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and multiple electronic driver-assist features. Some of the driver-assist features include handy items like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, including for rear cross traffic and reversing.

When it arrives, the AT4 will pack a taller ride height, skid plates, red recovery hooks up front, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a model-exclusive drive mode for rough surfaces. The Denali will bring premium features like heated seats for the rear passengers, 19-inch wheels (20-inch wheels available), and unique dampers designed to deliver improved comfort.

Terrain buyers will also be able to choose a two-tone roof option for the first time, though colors will be limited to black or gray.

The sole powertrain on offer will be a 1.5-liter turbo-4 rated at 175 hp. Depending on the model, front-wheel drive will be standard and all-wheel drive available. The maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds with all-wheel drive, or just 800 with front-wheel drive.

Opting for front-wheel drive means a lower torque reading of 184 lb-ft, versus 203 for all-wheel drive. Front-wheel-drive models also come with a CVT, while all-wheel-drive Terrain models have an 8-speed automatic.

The Terrain is the corporate cousin of the Chevrolet Equinox, which was also redesigned for 2025.
