Mercedes-Benz is preparing its next-generation electric vans for their scheduled arrival in 2026.
Unlike the current eSprinter, these vans will be based on a new platform called Van.EA designed specifically for EVs. One of these vans, thought to be the next-generation V-Class midsize passenger model, was spotted testing earlier this year, but Mercedes has now released its own photos of camouflaged prototypes.
The Van.EA platform features a three-module design that allows it to be easily adapted to various vehicle sizes. Mercedes has also confirmed that initial models based on this platform will feature single-motor front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.

Prototypes made a test run from Mercedes’ hometown of Stuttgart, Germany, to Norway’s North Cape in June of this year, Mercedes said. Next they’ll be sent to Sweden for winter testing.
All Mercedes vans introduced after 2026 will be based on the Van.EA platform. That will include a mid-size luxury van for the U.S., which Mercedes confirmed last year. That model, likely an equivalent to the current V-Class, will be a first for this market. The only mid-size van Mercedes has offered in the U.S. is the de-contented Metris, which was aimed aimed primarily at commercial fleets, rather than the individual owners this van will target.
The Van.EA is one of a series of new platforms being introduced by Mercedes targeting different market segments. The automaker will also deploy a platform called MMA for its next-generation compact range, the MB.EA platform for medium and large passenger cars, and AMG.EA platform for future AMG performance models.
